Geologists are people who study the rocks and how they formed.
Geologists say the idea of floods doesn't work very well.

One of the most important reasons is the sort of fossils we find.
In some layers, we have large animals
mixed up with small ones.
In other layers, we have different large animals
mixed up with different small ones.
In a flood, they wouldn't settle in a pattern like that.

The pattern of particles in the rock layers doesn't fit either.
It's like what you get when you mix some earth
with some water in a jar.
Try it! Make your own flood.
Put some earth and water in a jam jar.
Put the lid on and shake it up so it gets all mixed up.
Leave it alone until you start to get clear water at the top.
Look at the pattern of layers the earth makes.
The geologic column is not like that at all.
